Library News
| CIRCLE OF EDUCATION The St Paris Public Library celebrates 10 years of continuing to play a dynamic role in the circle of education for our community. This is our tenth year in this building. The circle flows from home to educational resources to the library and on to life long learning and the love of reading. We support the Ohio State initiative of Every Child Ready to Read by understanding the six basic skills. Two staff members have been trained by the Ohio State Library on this topic. The understanding of what a book is begins in the home. The acknowledgement of what a book is ,and how to hold a book, are the first elementary steps to success. A child learns to follow the written word and how it flows from page to page. These basic steps, and others, are very necessary to achieve a love of reading. The library supports this directive by allowing all borrowers to check out what appeals to families and in the format best suited to them. Our children’s programs and interaction with our library families creates a strong sense of life long reading and learning. |

Catch the Reading Bug Summer 2008 was a success for our patrons. We offered children’s, young adult and adult reading programs. Each segment offered incentives and rewards for reading. The children and young adults kept records based on minutes read. The adult, a less structured program, was based on an honor system and had many strong readers. The summer was also a success thanks to many volunteer hours logged here helping us put away multitudes of books and other needed tasks. We appreciate every individual that helped us. We had teen and adult volunteers this year. Thanks to the local citizens and establishments that donated money this year. The Friends organization was a key player this summer with strong donations and time spent helping us achieve these goals. We could not do all we do with out the Friends support. Many thanks to everyone. We hope to look to the Friends continuing support this fall as we approach the ballot booth, for the third time. It is imperative we have luck this fall passing the levy for the continued growth and survival of the library. Try this- Tell 17 people about the library and what it means to you. We need to have 17 more votes to pass the levy. |
| Teen Update 45 % of teenage girls say they want to spend time with their families. Try a trip to the library to pick out books together. Pay attention to new non-fiction-- lots to look through and enjoy as a family. Young adult non-fiction is shelved with the adult’s books. |
